Incorporated in 1774, just two years before the revolutionary war. Wakefield is made up of 4 villages Sanbornville, East Wakefield, North Wakefield and Union Village. Neighboring businesses in the Towns of Brookfield and Milton Mills are also actively involved and members of the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce. 
Located just 90 miles north of Boston, with 12 lakes, and extensive biking, snowmobile, and hiking trails Wakefield is a favorite destination for travelers, some who have decided to make Wakefield their year-round home. Sanbornville Downtown is a bustling retail district. Visit the: Playground, Gafney Library, Town beach on Lovell Lake, and historic Town Hall.

Our rich railroad heritage is reflected in the preservation of an authentic train turntable in Turntable park, and a unique Museum in the Garvin Building next door. Listen for the whistle of the active train line before you cross! Look for posters about church fairs, public suppers, and community arts programs. Union Village boast pretty Branch River with its unique power generating dams, many old mill buildings, and historical sites. The Wakefield Historical Districts nationally registered 26 Federal period buildings are unique in New England.
